Power Up Lineman Camp

Power Up Lineman Camp Returns for Third Year!

Escambia River Electric Cooperative will host its third annual Power Up Lineman Camp on April 9, with a rain date scheduled for April 16. The camp is open to high school juniors and seniors interested in exploring careers in the electrical utility industry. Applications are now open, and participation is limited, so early submission is encouraged.

The one day camp provides hands on training and an inside look at the skills required to become a lineman. Participants will rotate through instructional stations covering safety practices, underground and above ground electrical systems, transformers, and power pole climbing, along with demonstrations using bucket trucks. The camp is designed to give students practical experience while introducing them to the responsibilities and opportunities within the electric cooperative industry.

Students rotated through several interactive stations, gaining real-world insight into the electric utility industry, including:

  • Safety Procedures
  • Bucket Truck Operation
  • Pole Climbing
  • Hotstick Work
  • Overhead Work – Attaching lines and troubleshooting transformers
  • Underground Systems – Transformer handling and line tie-ins
  • Right of Way Demonstration
  • Pole Top Rescue Demonstration

“Lineman Camp is one of the most impactful programs we offer to students. It gives them a true, hands-on look at the work our linemen do every day and helps spark interest in a vital, rewarding career path. We’re proud to invest in the next generation and show them the power of teamwork, safety, and service.” — Ryan Campbell, CEO, Escambia River Electric Cooperative
