A series of thunderstorms hit the Escambia River Electric Cooperative (EREC) service area on January 7, knocking out electricity to almost 1,000 members.

Escambia River crews and staff worked around the clock to restore power as quickly as possible. EREC members flooded the cooperative with positive remarks, emails, texts, and food.

“With a community like this behind us, there is nothing we can’t do,” EREC Communications Manager Cortney Owens says.

When members’ service was entirely restored, eight EREC lineworkers traveled to help a nearby electric cooperative, Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative, restore power to 1,000-plus members in that service area who were still without power.

“It’s something special to come and work with other co-ops to get the power on,” lineworker David Deese says. “We aren’t here just to put the lights on but to help people.”
