Washington Youth Tour 2018

A lifetime of memories and friendships are being made this week in the nation’s capital

Gabby Chavers of Central High School, Bryce Cook of Jay High School and Lydia Smith from Northview High School have joined more than 1,800 youth leaders representing co-ops from 43 states for a weeklong tour of the nation’s capital as Washington Youth Tour delegates.  Gabby, Bryce and Lydia won Escambia River Electric Cooperative’s contest held annually for juniors in EREC’s service area.

Highlights of the trip include the World War II, Lincoln, Vietnam, Korean and FDR memorials; Arlington National Cemetery; relaxing on the Potomac River during an evening boat cruise; and visiting many other places of interest in Washington, D.C.

Youth Tour delegates will have the opportunity to meet with Congressman Matt Gaetz and visit the U.S. Capitol, where they will learn more about how government works.  During the Rural Electric Youth Day program, they will gain a better understanding of rural electric cooperatives’ history and their importance in the communities they serve.

The Youth Tour is an experience of a lifetime, and a trip Gabby, Bryce and Lydia will never forget.
