Students Earn College Scholarships from EREC
Escambia River Electric Cooperative (EREC) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2022 Herman D. Johnson Scholarship Awards: Sarah Hetrick of Escambia County and Hannah Bott of Santa Rosa County.
Sarah is a senior at Northview High School and is the daughter of Joseph and Connie Hetrick. Sarah plans to use this scholarship to pursue a nursing degree. She is the Senior Class Secretary and participates in several clubs such as Student Government Association, Math Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Sarah also holds many hours volunteering for Northwest Escambia Ballpark and First Baptist Church of Bratt. “The Herman D. Johnson Scholarship will definitely benefit me,” says Sarah. “But it will also benefit the many people that I will help one day through my nursing education.”
Hannah is a senior at Central High School and is the daughter of Penny Bott. Hannah hopes to follow in her mother’s footsteps as an elementary teacher. She has held many offices in Key Club and Beta is currently volunteering at Olive Baptist Church and Chumuckla Elementary School. Hannah was an EREC delegate for the Tallahassee Youth Tour and will be attending the Washington Youth Tour. “My struggle in early elementary school and the teachers that poured into me during those times is what has inspired me to go into the field of Early Childhood and Elementary Education,” says Hannah. “Thank you to EREC for investing in me.”
“This scholarship program is designed to encourage and recognize the academic achievements of the students in the communities we serve. The number of applicants increase each year, and we are so impressed by what these students have accomplished already at such a young age,” says Ryan Campbell, CEO of EREC. “We are excited to continue to watch these students grow and achieve their goals.”
Sarah and Hannah will receive $1,000 each for four years providing they continue to meet the scholarship criteria. Congratulations to these incredible students. EREC wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
