Students Earn College Scholarships from EREC

Escambia River Electric Cooperative is pleased to announce the winners of the 2018 Herman D. Johnson Scholarship Awards:  Hannah Nelson for Escambia County and Jackson Flowers for Santa Rosa County.

Hannah is the daughter of Dura and Laura Nelson.  She plans to major in the field of International Affairs at Florida State University.  Hannah is a member of the National Beta Club and a Phi Theta Kappa member at Pensacola State College.  She is in the Ambassador Program with the Atmore Chamber of Commerce.  Hannah works at the Atmore Public Library helping with children’s programs, planning events and leading computer classes.  Hannah is a full-time dual enrollment student at Pensacola State College.

Jackson is the son of Alton Flowers and the late Judy Flowers.  Jackson plans to attend the University of South Alabama and major in Criminal Justice.  After graduating college, Jackson plans to join the United States Air Force to become a pilot.  He plays varsity basketball and baseball and is on the varsity golf team.  He is an officer in the Student Government Association and has served as class vice-president for four years.  Jackson participated in EREC’s Youth Tour to Tallahassee and Washington program.

Hannah and Jackson will receive $1,000 each for four years providing they continue to meet the scholarship criteria.  The scholarships were presented at the respective schools’ awards programs.

Congratulations to Hannah and Jackson.  EREC wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
