Proudly Celebrating 85 Years of Growth
Since its founding, Escambia River Electric Cooperative (EREC) has focused on serving our community. After the arrival of electricity in cities, big power companies overlooked rural areas, leaving communities like ours without service until the Rural Electrification Act allowed residents to take action. They banded together to create EREC, turning their vision into reality.
This year, we proudly celebrated our 85th anniversary. Much has changed since then; our automated electric system enhances reliability, allowing us to detect outages before you even call. Paying your bill is now as simple as a few taps on your smartphone.
Yet, some things remain timeless. We are still owned by the members we serve, dedicated to providing essential services that might not otherwise be available.
This anniversary coincides with the completion of our fiber project, bringing high-speed internet access to members and transforming the community, much like the arrival of electricity did decades ago.
As we celebrate Christmas and the New Year with friends and family, I am grateful to be part of a cooperative that has made a meaningful impact on our lives. Together, we’ve come a long way, and I look forward to what we can achieve in the next 85 years.
